Takamatua Bay
Takamatua Bay - Banks Peninsula
2023
Situated at the entrance to Takamatua Bay, this family holiday home has been designed to capture the essence of the classic Kiwi bach while embracing the comforts of modern coastal living. Orientated to maximise its location, the home opens out onto a sheltered evening terrace with sweeping views across the bay. Expansive glazing floods the main living and bedroom areas with natural light and frames the ever-changing seascape beyond.
Inside, richly textured materials and finely crafted detailing strike a balance between rustic coastal & contemporary character.
The Architectural form is deliberately simple and familiar: a traditional gable-ended living pavilion and “lean-to” amenity structure in elevation. Horizontal board & vertical batten cladding echo the vernacular of the early coastal settler cribs scattered throughout Banks Peninsula.
Flexible in function, the layout balances privacy and connection, openness and retreat.
