Church Bay House

Church Bay - Banks Peninsula

2006

An unrealized  four bedroom house on a beautiful but challenging hillside in Banks Penisula. The site contained an visually striking, volcanic rock formation of which the client had already started planting out with arid species and natives. This formation, a desire to create a sheltered tropical courtyard around it and the narrowness of the site became the major factors in the spatial planning of this house. Entry & Living areas are located on the naturally flat portion of the site with the  Bedroom areas separated by a stepped Gallery, which runs parallel to the rock formations as it blends back into the land. Master bedroom and the remaining sleeping spaces spill down and up respectively from the entry point to this passageway off the lounge.
